Sam Norwich Can't Afford Weight Loss Surgery

I need to have weight loss surgery. A year ago my doctor said I was eligible for gastric bypass surgery. A few weeks later I lost my job and my individual health insurance. I have since found a job but do not have insurance. There are few jobs available around here so I am lucky. But I can't afford the surgery without insurance. And I am getting fatter and sicker every day. We need to do something about health ca… Continue

Scott Bennett 11 days since surgery

Well, it's been eleven days and things are beginning to look up. I had a few rough days at the beginning of the week and I got real down. I was having a tough time swallowing. But that is better now. Am getting my water and protein now without problem. My doctor said that because he had to repair a hiatal hernia at the time he put the band in, it would be a little sore. That has passed and I'm feeling much better. I was very weak and tired Sun-Tue. and got upset wondering if I had made a mistake… Continue

kat lee Queen Bee's thoughts

The night before surgery I wanted to back out. I didn't want to give up my comfort ( food ). How was I going to feel when everone else in my family went out to eat? Would it be easier to just stay home? I had lots of questions and very few answers. I did go through with it and I am not sorry. I did it because of my health. In the end that was what was important. It took about one hour to do the surgery and two hours in recovery. I don't remember anything about the first couple of hours in my roo… Continue

kat lee Queen Bee's thoughts

Good Morning! I just made a pasta salad for tomorrow. It looks very yummy. I think I will make Lemonade Pie too. We always go to my sons house to swim and grill. I have lost 2 lbs this week so far. Yeah! I went to Kohl's yesterday. They are having a big sale. It was fun to look for something smaller than a 2x. I got some capris and a pair of sandles. I have found that I am not thinking about food all the time. That is a blessing! When I do eat, I pick something low in calories and don't fe… Continue

With all of the emphasis on diet, exercise and other health behaviors, the real marker of long life seems to be mental even more than physiological," says aging expert Daniel Perry, noting that those who reach very old age "have a certain toughness of spirit about them and an ability to roll with life's punches and keep plugging away with a sense of purpose." Wow, that is great news. I have been cleaning out my closet, again. This time I was serious about it. I did not save anything over an… Continue

kat lee Queen Bee's thoughts

I am so excited! When I got on the scale this morning I was below the dreaded 200 lbs. I have been eating around 850-950 calories a day. Chicken and fish are the best source of meat protien for me. I drink at least one protien shake a day. Yogurt and cottage cheese have become a staple. I put the cottage cheese in a food processor and add vanilla and stevia sweetner and puree it. It tastes alot like cheese cake. I always put a tablespoon of natural p-nut butter into my yogurt. It is very satis… Continue

kat lee Queen Bee's thoughts

I am almost 4 mos. out from surgery. I have lost 31 lbs This picture was taken today. This morning I was thinking about being obese and how it felt. Do any of you feel like you are just a shadow figure to the world? People do not look at me, they do not see me and they do not want to see me. All they see is a large shadow to be avoided. Only my family sees the person under the fat. But when they look at other obese people what do they see? When I lose all the weight, what will I see? And how abo… Continue

kat lee Queen Bee's thoughts

All consuming. Have you noticed that obesity takes over your life. Everything revolves around eating, not eating, will I fit, will I be embarrassed and what can I wear to look smaller. I am sick of it. How about YOU! That is precisely why I decided to have the surgery. I am 3 months out from surgery. It has been an adjustment. I have had 3 fills and have good restriction. The adjustment part is the journey. Learning to eat in a new way is slow going. I thought I was good to go with the new diet.… Continue

Larraine Loving Life!

I have been keeping a regular blog about my experiences and thoughts regarding weight loss. I call it "Renewal" and it can be viewed at It's been nearly a year since my weight loss surgery. The journey has been both amazing and gratifying. In July, 2009, I had double knee replacement surgery. I've finished my formal rehab. It was vigorous and demanding, but now I feel great. I've become addicted to exercise! I would never have… Continue

Scott Bennett Gas attack

I wonder if others find it common to have a lot of gas in the days following surgery. I know I sure have. And for all the gas, I've not had a bowel movement. Of course, the thing that comes to my mind is, what could there be in there to come out? Right? I mean, for two whole days before the surgery I had nothing but clear liquids (broth, sugar free popsicles, etc.) and since I've only had liquid protein drinks. Still, I would feel a little more normal if I could just have at least a little movem… Continue

Scott Bennett Still on protein liquid phase

Today is day 2 of the liquid phase of my diet since surgery. I'll be glad when I can start on blended food and get back to eating a little something solid. I'm finding that the EAS protein drinks are pretty good. I've tried the strawberry, dark chocolate and the vanilla. I like the vanilla best. I had some of the powder last night for dinner (Syntrax Nectar naturals - whey protein isolate). I mixed it with some orange flavored crystal light and it was ok - it reminded me of a mixture of honey an… Continue

Scott Bennett Recovering from surgery

Well, it looks like everything went ok with the surgery.Came home the same day. Still very sore, but I can put up with some minor pain because I know it's only temporary, and it's one of those things I have to endure in order to get well (weight wise). I survived 3 days of clear liquids...now I am on the full liquid diet. Yummy. For breakfast I am having a rich dark chocolate protein shake (EAS AdvantEDGE). I've heard others talk abut how they didn't like the shakes. I think it tastes pretty go… Continue

Scott Bennett surgery prep

Surgery tomorrow. I've been preparing for a couple of weeks now. I've lost 21 pounds eating the things Dr. Houston outlined. Also been walking a mile a day (with just one or two days when I missed). Started yesterday with nothing but clear liquids in preparation for the surgery. It hasn't been too tough. I craved something a few time, but I've tried to keep myself busy with other things. This morning I watched a video of the banding surgery on you tube. Very interesting. My wife, Donna, asked i… Continue

Kim ***LOOKING FOR PROTEIN***

Ok so my surgery is in about 2 weeks and I am trying to find protein! I do not want to lose hair, and I need some ideas of how to get the required amount of protein, in the liquid stages. My dietician has recommended Isopure, available at GNC. So I sampled it, and well to say it is gross.... would be an under statement. Can anyone recommed something that can help, and that isnt sooo horrible? Continue

Woodley Family Supplements

I am finally on the surgery schedule! I began speaking with my doctor in October 2008 and it has taken this long to get everything to be approved. My surgery date is Sept. 15th. My surgeon and I have both agreed that RNY is the best choice for me and I will begin the pre-op diet Aug. 25th. Currious.... did any of you use the VLCD "Skim Milk" diet? I can only drink skim milk three times per day (along with water) for three weeks. The reason for my post however, is to see what supplements those o… Continue

Cathy 'tink' Wierman I Am A Trekkie...and trying to enjoy it

For the past six weeks, I have been a trekkie....boldly going where I haven't gone in the 26 years of being married to my DH, Allen. On 4/17/09, he fell down the stairs in our home and broke his shoulder, had staples in the back of his head and stitches over his eye and on the side of his nose. He was taken to the only trauma center in the county and was there for 6 days then was transferred to a rehab center. He came home yesterday morning and this is the best birthday gift I could have since t… Continue
